THSAA Awards Scholarships

The Tomball High School Alumni Association awarded three scholarships to graduating THS seniors this year. The Scholarship Committee for 2009 consisted of Terry Hudgens '85, Paul Proske '85 and Suzanne Rogers '89. The THSAA along with the scholarship committee are proud to present our three outstanding recipients for 2009: The Gene Harrison Memorial Scholarship winner is: Jeffrey Clay Holverson. The requirements for the Gene Harrison Scholarship are: complete the application including an essay on "The Responsibilities of Leadership," a letter in athletics or supporting activity; financial need, and grades in the middle of the academic spectrum. This year's winner, Jeffrey Clay Holverson lettered in football, played basketball, and ran track. He is hoping to attend Texas A & M, and plans to earn a degree in Construction Science, following in his father's chosen field. The second scholarship given by the THSAA is the Poley Parker Memorial Scholarship. The requirements for the Poley Parker Scholarship are: complete the application including an essay on "The Value of Agriculture in the Future," desire to become a leader or teacher in the vocational agriculture field; total understanding and a foundation of FFA skills with proof of leadership rolls, active participation, and project involvement. This year's winner is: Heather Rahm. Miss Rahm is the 2008-2009 THS FFA President. She has participated in many state and district FFA leadership conferences over four years. She raised a market lamb all four years and participated in dairy cattle judging. Miss Rahm plans to attend Texas A & M. She plans to major in agricultural science and become an ag teacher. She aspires to obtain a Master's Degree in Ag Business and to become the Texas FFA Advisor. Miss Rahm graduated in the top 14% of the 2009 graduating class. The Rick Eggleston Memorial Scholarship is the third scholarship awarded by THSAA. The requirements of this scholarship are: complete the application including an essay on "The Responsibilities of Leadership;" participation and leadership in extracurricular activities; and strong academics. This year's winner is: Stephanie Stevenson. Miss Stevenson lettered in Academics and Student Council. She also held several office positions over her four years at THS in the following clubs/activities: Student Council, Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society; Asian Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and 2009 Senior Class. Miss Stevenson has been accepted to Texas A & M University and will major in meteorology, and then she plans to attend graduate school for a Master's and Ph.D. She plans to become a research meteorologist. Miss Stevenson ranks #9 of 595 students, with a GPA of 105, which places her in the top 016% of the 2009 graduating class. The Tomball High School Alumni Association would like to congratulate all of the winners for 2009. THSAA would like to extend our best wishes and good luck to the winners in their academic pursuits.
